About Nanaimo First Aid

Rates

Rates are paid in full during enrolment with no additional expenses during the training period. Rates include taxes, certificates, workplace approved registration fees, and workplace approved training manuals. Students who drop out and give 72-hour notices beforehand are entitled to full refunds.

First Aid Programs

First aid training programs are focused on different emergency first aid skills and introducing the student to the emergency medical services (EMS) system. Students learn how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillation (AED), wound care, and addressing injuries such as heavy bleeding and burns. Standard first aid programs, the most popular course available, takes approximately 16 hours to complete.

Students are required to have complete attendance, at least 75 percent on the written exam, and good skill return demonstration to pass the program.

CPR/AED-only classes are also available, with three levels lasting 4, 5, and 6 hours respectively.

Extra programs

Private instructors are also available at Nanaimo First Aid, with hourly rates and special schedules. Just give a call or send an e-mail to inquire about booking them. Instructors can be booked for private training, training at home, or for special events like conferences.

Certification

Certificate cards are awarded upon passing the program. Certificate cards are awarded to all students but wall-mount sized certificates are optional and can be requested. The certificates are valid for three years, renewable through recertification programs. Standard first aid recertification classes are 8 hours long, twice a week, and include CPR level C recertification.

If you have or suspect gastroenteritis (an inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract), remember these first aid tips:

  • DO NOT eat anything for a few hours to let your stomach settle.
  • Drink plenty of fluids. DO drink water or sport drinks. AVOID citrus juices that can cause your stomach to become irritated.
  • GRADUALLY ease back into eating. Start with bland food like rice, soda crackers, toast, bananas, and chicken.
  • AVOID fatty food, highly seasoned food, caffeine, alcohol, and nicotine.
  • If you have any abdominal pain, you can take pain relievers.
  • REST.
