Signing up
Enrolment is really quick and hassle-free. Trainees just need to visit the Fort McMurray First Aid website and choose a program, then use the registration form to sign up. Other ways to enrol are e-mails, telephone calls, and walk-ins during business hours in any of hte facilities in Alberta.
Available classes
First aid programs are focused on different first aid skills and concepts of the EMS or emergency medical services. Students are taught CPR and AED (automated external defibrillation), wound care, and managing injuries that affect circulation and breathing. Standard first aid courses are 14-16 hours long, in total. Stand-alone CPR and AED classes are also available, lasting 4, 5, and 6 hours respectively for levels A, C, and HCP.
Stand-alone CPR/AED
CPR/AED-only classes are also available, teaching students how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automated external defibrillation on adult and pediatric patients. Level A is for adult victims and level C is for adult and pediatric victims. Level HCP is targeted at health care providers and focuses on CPR/AED in the hospital setting.
Private training
Students can also request private training, usually done by big groups of trainees and companies. Instructors at Fort McMurray First Aid are certified by St Mark James and have hourly rates if you want to book them for private training. Just send an e-mail or give a call to inquire about them.
Certificates
Certificate cards from St Mark James are awarded to trainees once they complete and pass a program. Complete attendance, at least 75 percent on the written exam, and good demonstration of skills are needed to pass. Students can request wall-mount certificates as well.
The certificates are valid for three years and can be renewed through recertification programs.
Rates
Fort McMurray First Aid offers the cheapest possible rates in the area. Rates include taxes, certificates, and workplace approved training manuals. All fees are paid in full during enrolment so trainees don’t have to worry about payment during the training.
Students who drop out must give a 72-hour notice beforehand to receive a full refund.
